About - J Street Co-op Kitchen Remodel
Students in Environmental Policy and Planning, Community Development and Energy Systems helped redesign the co-op community kitchen owned and managed by the Solar Community Housing Association (SCHA). They were interested in renovating the kitchen for the J Street Co-op, centering accessibility needs in the redesign to create a community kitchen space that is comfortable for people of varying physical ability. The team team began with research into relevant codes, co-learning, and case studies. Developed a survey, conducted interviews and used a community centred approach to come up with four different layouts.
